Rose Fitzner is now general manager at the Days Inn - Surrey. Kevin Van Vuren See has been hired as general manager of the Dufferin Hotel, Vancouver. Derek Ulemann is the new general manager at the Tiki Shores Condominium Beach Resort, Penticton. Marika Glickman is the acting general manager at the Amethyst Inn at Regents Park, Victoria. BCYHA welcomes Annie Robinson to the staff team. Annie joins us from Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, and she brings with her over 25 years of experience in the hotel industry. Annie replaces Carol Schweder, who has left us to persue a delightful semi-retirement in Kelowna, with her “Sweet Baboo”, Klaus Jacobsen of Highgate Hotels.
Coast Hotels & Resorts has entered into a 5-year $20,000 sponsorship agreement with the Aboriginal Tourism Association of British Columbia (ATBC). Under the terms of the agreement, Coast Hotels & Resorts will sponsor the Aboriginal Tourism Awards for 5 years. The Ambassador Award is presented each year by ATBC to an individual who has gone above and beyond to represent the Aboriginal community with pride, respect, and integrity.
“Aboriginal cultural tourism is an integral part of BC’s hospitality industry,” said Graeme Barrit, President of Coast Hotels & Resorts. “This sponsorship is an important step forward in helping our company gain a better understanding of the diversity and history of Aboriginal people, while providing new business opportunities for First Nations that help preserve their cultural identity.”
Hampton Hotels is calling on Canadians to join its Explore the Highway with Hampton® Save-A-Landmark program to rescue a landmark in Canada. Dedicated to refurbishing historical, fun and cultural roadside landmarks, the Hampton Save-A-Landmark program is calling for nominations to identify its second Canadian landmark for preservation. One historic landmark will be selected to receive $20,000 towards restoration in 2007.
